Luke Gaffney
General Physician
Dr Luke Gaffney grew up and completed his education in Brisbane, and earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Melbourne. He trained at tertiary hospitals across Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland, including with the Royal Flying Doctors Service in the Northern Territory. He earned his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and commenced as a Staff Specialist in General Medicine, Palliative Care and Endoscopy at Toowoomba Hospital. He later served as Director of Medicine for three years before entering private practice in 2016.
Dr Gaffney is actively involved in medical education and clinical training. He has held academic appointments with the University of Queensland, and currently teaches with Griffith University and QRME. He is also a member of the Medical Advisory Committees at both St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital and the Toowoomba Hospice, where he is credentialed to admit patients, along with St Vincent’s Hospital. Dr Gaffney also serves on the IMSANZ Council, representing rural and regional general physicians at the national level.
He has a strong interest in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GESA certified) and provides gastroscopy and colonoscopy at St Andrew’s and Toowoomba Surgicentre. He offers inpatient care, outpatient consultations, and diagnostic monitoring such as ambulatory blood pressure and cardiac holter testing from his rooms at St Andrew’s.
