Gonesh Karmakar
Respiratory, Sleep & General Physician
Dr Gonesh Karmakar is a Respiratory, Sleep and General Physician with expertise in managing a wide range of respiratory and sleep conditions. He graduated from Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh in 1990 and moved to New Zealand in 1996, where he lived for 13 years. He attained Fellowship in Internal Medicine (FRACP) in 2008 and in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine in 2009 through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr Karmakar’s clinical interests include the investigation and management of sleep apnoeas, lung cancer, asthma, COPD, pleural effusion, and interstitial lung disease. He also provides services for spirometry, mannitol challenge, home sleep studies, and referrals for in-lab sleep studies. Additionally, he offers driver’s licence clearance for patients with sleep apnoea.
Passionate about teaching, Dr Karmakar has been appointed honorary Senior Lecturer at the Rural Medical School in Toowoomba and the University of Queensland. He is currently consulting at St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital.
