Dr Joel Collins

Dr Joel Collins is a Consultant Clinical Haematologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He manages the full spectrum of blood disorders, including blood cancers, abnormal blood counts, bleeding disorders and thrombosis. Dr Collins has clinical interests in iron deficiency and other nutritional deficiencies affecting the blood, especially in women and children. He completed his medical degree at Griffith University in Queensland and undertook advanced physician and haematology training at two of Queensland’s major tertiary centres — the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital. During this time, he served as Chief Medical Registrar at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Dr Collins is the founder of Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic and The Iron Infusion Clinic, services established to improve access to specialist haematology care and infusion therapies for patients across the Darling Downs and surrounding regions. Through collaboration with St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital, he has worked to expand local treatment options for patients with complex and high-grade haematological malignancies, allowing many patients who previously required treatment in Brisbane to receive care closer to home. Dr Collins has published research in both Australian and international peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national conferences. His research interests include malignant haematology, particularly multiple myeloma. He is a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland Rural Clinical School and maintains active membership of several professional societies. Dr Collins consults at Toowoomba Haematology and Oncology Clinic and treats patients at St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital.
