Dr Craig Brownlie

Dr Craig Brownlie is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in shoulder, knee and hip surgery. In his role as Program Director of the Centre of Orthopaedic Excellence at St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital, he provides clinical leadership and strategic oversight for the orthopaedic team. Dr Brownlie is highly regarded for his clinical practice, research involvement, and commitment to the education of junior clinicians. His areas of interest include sports and shoulder injuries, arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement. Dr Brownlie values building strong relationships with his patients and taking time to understand their individual treatment goals. He promotes shared decision-making and focuses on helping patients return to function and maintain their desired lifestyle. Originally from Mungindi and educated in Toowoomba, Dr Brownlie completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Queensland in 2008, before specialising in orthopaedic surgery in Perth, Western Australia. He completed two fellowships at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, gaining experience in complex hip and knee joint replacement, followed by advanced training in all aspects of shoulder surgery, including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, stabilisation and replacement. Dr Borwonlie further advanced his shoulder subspecialty training at the Royal London Hospital, one of London’s major trauma centres, where he worked within the upper limb team across both acute trauma and elective practice. This experience supported his expertise across the full spectrum of upper limb surgery, specialising in shoulder procedures. Since returning to Toowoomba, Dr Brownlie consults privately from rooms at St Andrew’s Hospital and operates at both St Andrew’s and St Vincent’s Private Hospitals. Outside his surgical practice, Dr Brownlie enjoys an active lifestyle and spending time with his family.
