Pastoral Care
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital is the only stand-alone not-for-profit hospital in Toowoomba and is widely recognised for its commitment to exceptional care and high-quality specialist services. We proudly support patients across Toowoomba, the Darling Downs, and surrounding regional and rural communities.
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital is proudly founded on Christian principles. Our faith-based heart is not simply part of our history, it is central to who we are today, and it shapes how we care for every person who walks through our doors.
As a hospital rooted in Christian values, it is essential that every aspect of our work reflects this mission. From the care we provide to patients and families, to the way we support our staff and make decisions as an organisation, our purpose is guided by a commitment to serve with integrity, compassion, and faith.
To ensure our values were clearly defined and aligned with our mission, the Board undertook a comprehensive review of our organisational values. This process was undertaken with great care, recognising that our values must be authentic, lived, and meaningful.
Importantly, the process was collaborative from the very beginning. Our staff, the heart of our hospital, were actively involved through workshops, discussions, and feedback sessions. Their experience, insight, and commitment to patient care played a vital role in shaping values that truly reflect our shared identity and purpose.
Through this work, St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital affirmed six core values that guide everything we do. Together these values form HEART, reflecting our commitment to serving with compassion:
- Honesty
- Excellence
- Accountability
- Respect
- Trust
- With Compassion
These values are far more than words. They are a commitment, a reflection of how we strive to work, how we treat one another, and how we care for every patient with dignity and kindness.
This alignment with Christian principles strengthens our mission to provide healthcare that nurtures both the body and the spirit. It ensures that our hospital is not only effective and professional, but also deeply ethical, spiritually grounded, and centred on hope.
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital’s Christian heart is embodied in our North Star:
To be a trusted centre of excellence, offering holistic healthcare and hope to the Darling Downs and beyond.
This hope is anchored in faith, and it reflects our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care guided by Christian values, now and into the future.
